This week has been hot hot hot in Florida! I decided that wasn’t going to hold me back from enjoying one of my favorite fall treats. Caramel apples! I keep thinking that if I continue to make fall treats… JUST maybe the weather will change its mind and start cooling down. I will have to keep you posted on that.
These gourmet caramel apples are delicious and bring the perfect amount of fall to my bungalow! I love to make them for neighbors and I have had people tell me they look forward to them every year. Disclaimer: They are also addictive. Very addictive. Don’t think you’ll just eat one even though they are big enough to share with the whole family.
Apple pie has to be the most classic and traditional fall dessert there ever has been. Come on. Flakey crust with sweet apple filling baked to perfection. Nothing gets better than that.
Except for…. these Apple Pie Caramel Apples! Try them out yourself and let me know if I have you convinced.
This recipe calls for Honeycrisp apples and Honeycrisp apples only. Most caramel apple recipes call for Green Apples, however, the trick to getting the perfect combination of sweet and tart is in the Honeycrisp. They are usually in season from September to November, but I have been able to find good ones starting in August!
The most important thing with this simple but delicate recipe is NO substitutes on the ingredients. Since there are only five ingredients every single one will make the difference between a good caramel apple and one that keeps people talking.
Apple Pie Caramel Apples
Ingredients
- 5 Honeycrisp Apples
- 11 oz Krafts Caramel Candies
- 10 oz Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers
- 2 Tbsp Heavy Cream
- 1 cup Cinnamon Sugar
- 5 Popsicle Sticks
Instructions
- Scrub and clean apples under water removing the wax. Dry apples. Stick popsicles in the tops of apples.
- Add caramel candies and heavy cream in a sauce pan over medium to low heat. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
- Dip the apples into the melted caramel allowing the excess to drip back into sauce pan. After dipping each apple place into the fridge on a cookie sheet cover in plastic wrap.
