Currently, we have a midcentury table base with a thrifted marble top. I actually love the look of this, but slowly the table has shrunk and with our breakfast nook being quite small our knees would often hit the table legs. That’s why I knew I wanted to create a DIY Wood Slat Drum Table Base.
Using a drum type table base will allow for more legroom and actually make the area appear more spacious. I also love the modern look of drum tables like THIS one from Urban Outfitters. So although I loved our previous set up I knew this DIY Wood Slat Drum Table Base would really elevate this spot in our home!

2 x 4 pieces of wood x 3
Wood glue
Concrete Tube Form
Slats x 15

DIY BASE
We built the base by attaching the 2 x 4’s to the round pieces of wood. We used both wood glue and nails. After the glue had dried we did add a few screws to make sure it was sturdy enough.
Then we used a concrete form tub to create a round surface to place the slats. We attached this cardboard form using a staple gun, stapling the cardboard form to the 2 x 4’s.
SLATS
We then attached the slats. Using a nail gun we attached them at the top and bottom of the pine boards. We also used glue on in the middle so the slats would lay flat. You can see videos of this process on my Instagram HERE. We finished it off by filling the nail holes and lightly sanding the base.
We are so happy with how easy this project was! The combination of the marble top with the natural wood also brings the perfect amount of modern + cozy feels to our breakfast nook.
