Small Christmas Tree Base for Corner

There are so many things I love about living in a small house! I have learned over the past six years of living in our 700-square-foot bungalow that there is always a solution to a problem that could be solved by living in a bigger home. Finding space for a Christmas tree that fits in perfectly… without taking up too much space… was an issue that I was excited to solve! I found the perfect hack for a small tree base for a corner Christmas tree!

What can I use instead of a Christmas tree stand?

I learned quickly that in order to have a semi-regular-sized Christmas tree in my home, I was going to have to be able to tuck it away in a corner neatly. The Christmas tree I bought is 6 feet tall and comes with a large metal base!

When I was using the base, I realized that I wasn’t able to push the Christmas tree up into the corner, tight enough for it to be out of our walkways.

That’s when I decided to put my Christmas tree in a basket! That meant I could use a small enough basket that worked as a small Christmas tree base for the corner.

I’ve seen a lot of people come up with different ideas for putting a Christmas tree in a basket and I’ve been doing my technique for the last three years and it works perfectly! Keep Reading for the technique…

To sum it up, I place a few heavy bricks at the bottom of the basket on top of a dish towel. That way your basket won’t get dirty and the bricks are heavy enough to keep the tree from tipping over. Then I stack two Styrofoam cake dummies and push the end of the Christmas tree pole into the cake dummies. You can see my video tutorial here.

I will clarify that not all Styrofoam cake dummies are alike. The Styrofoam that I’ve had for the past four years is a very tough floral foam which I’ve linked below. Make sure to measure your rounds so they fit in the basket! If your basket is too big for the rounds, you can stuff towels or blankets around them to keep them from moving inside the basket.

Is there a corner Christmas tree?

Corner Christmas trees are actually a thing! Although I don’t have a corner Christmas tree they do exist. Instead, I have a regular Christmas tree that I push up against the corner and I only style the front.

I weave the lights back and forth just in front of the Christmas tree

How do you hide the bottom of a Christmas tree?

After I get my Christmas tree situated, I will add some fake snow to the top of the basket. I use pillow stuffing and it’s absolutely adorable! Four years in a row and a basket as a small Christmas tree base is still doing the trick!
