Blue Wallpaper in Primary Bedroom

When I decided to makeover my friend Kelly’s primary bedroom, I knew blue wallpaper was essential! Kelly has a classy yet fun personality, so I aimed for a modern traditional style in her primary bedroom. Since she moved into her new home a few years ago, she hadn’t really focused on decorating her primary bedroom so it was incredibly fun to step in and give the space a complete transformation to match her style!

I’d like to thank The Home Depot for sponsoring this post.

What color of wallpaper is best for a primary bedroom?

This blue wallpaper is absolutely everything! It’s pre-pasted, which makes installation quite easy, and the pattern repeats every five inches or so, minimizing waste. What I love most about the blue wallpaper in this primary bedroom is its beautiful, calming light blue background and the painted texture of the design. This detail adds an element of luxury and uniqueness to the space.

How do you style a bedroom with blue walls?

After deciding to cover the entire room with blue wallpaper, I chose a color palette that combines blue, white, and soft greens.

Blue and White Bedroom Ideas

I personally love the mixed-match feel of furniture in a room because it gives the space a more eclectic and intentionally energetic vibe. When deciding how to mix and match furniture correctly, I focus on viewing the entire room as a whole rather than piece by piece.

That’s why creating a mood board is so helpful and important as a guide.

Closet Doors

Living in Florida, you often encounter quirky and unusual challenges when moving into an older home. We had to build out the closet doors, but they turned out even better than I imagined. You can read our semi-custom tutorial to see how we achieved this look. Here is what it looked like before! As you can see we had to find a solution to this no-doors closet!

Jute Rug Layering

As you know, I’m always a huge fan of layering rugs, particularly when it involves a natural jute rug topped with a vintage-inspired colored rug. I love how the green in the rug complements with the green in the sage gingham sheets, while the jute rug adds a grounding touch with its organic material.

Hanging Plugin Wall Sconce

Using plug-in wall sconces in this blue wallpapered primary bedroom was a total win! I love the gold combination with rattan shade. Instead of trying to conceal the cord for the plug-in light, I decided to enhance it by covering it with an adorable velvet ribbon. This is something I did in my own home and have loved it!

I love the extra detail this adds against the blue wallpaper.

What color bedding goes with blue walls?

Choosing this adorable embroidered duvet cover was an easy decision for me! I love the combination of blue and white in a primary bedroom. It strikes the perfect balance between trendy and timeless.

Mixing and matching bedding can really make a room feel cozy and cohesive when done right. The pop of green sheets works perfectly with the greens in the rug.

Furniture Ideas for Blue Rooms

For the furniture, I wanted the room to feel both organic and luxurious. That’s why I incorporated a white linen bed frame and white side tables with rattan detailing.

The room turned out absolutely adorable. Between the blue wallpaper in this primary bedroom and all the fun details in the furniture, lights, bedding, and floor rugs, it looks like a whole new space.
