FLORIDA ENTRY ROOM, RUG LAYERING & WEEKEND FINDS

This has to be my favorite rooms in the bungalow. Many homes here in Florida have an entry room which they refer to as the Florida Room. Ours has double French doors and big louver windows (shutter windows) that let in so much natural light I can hardly stand it. When I started thinking about how I wanted to style this room there were a few things to consider. One being, there is no air conditioning in this room so it is more an outdoor/indoor room. The other thing I had to think about was this room has a lot of foot traffic being the room you entry the house through.

Since I knew there was going to be a lot of traffic through this room I wanted to find a rug that would last. I ended up choosing this rug here. It was honestly a great surprise went it arrived at my front door. I didn’t think it would be as soft on my feet as it was and the color was perfect. There is ZERO shedding and running a vacuum over it is fine. This room is a really awkward size. Funny thing about homes built in the 40’s… lots of great quirks and that is one of them! An 8 x 10 rug was too big and wasn’t going to fit in the room…

But the smaller size 9 x 6 was going to be just a little too small so I had to work with what I had. So thank goodness for rug layering! Rug layering is the best way to add some color or pattern to a room while keep the floor completely covered. These cute boho 3 x 5 rugs are from World Market.

I really wanted this room to be full of color and these rugs do just that! I have also added a bunch of plants in the room. This adds fresh air and color to the white walls. I am eventually going to add wall paper to one of these walls but I haven’t pulled the trigger on any pattern yet. I will write another post on that when I decide! The mirror was a Homegoods find. And a good one too! I will post some look-a-likes at the bottom of this post. I found the rattan furniture on Craigslist. The sofa started out army green and I painted it black. The chair in the corner I left wood and covered up the horrendous 70’s green fabric with a blanket. I want to recover it eventually. Again, waiting until I make some final decisions on fabrics and colors. We love having Carter’s bike in this room. It adds a modern touch. Carter picked out this alpaca art and I love it! It gives this room such a relaxing and welcoming feel. I try and mix old with new like this gray buffet. It’s from the 50’s but I gave it a new paint job with a modern gray and painted the knobs gold. We keep all types of things in here. There is never enough storage in a 700 square foot home!

I will keep posting updates of this room and check out the links below for items in this room.
