Holiday Sugar Cookie Recipe

This Holiday Sugar Cookie Recipe is a must-have in your kitchen this holiday season. I know, I know, everyone claims to have the best sugar cookie recipe, but I can promise you, you’ll keep coming back to the recipe over and over again! This cookie has just the right amount of sugar and is perfectly soft. That’s what is important to me about a sugar cookie, the softness.

I created this Holiday Sugar Cookie Recipe by combining a few recipes I’ve used in the past and adding ingredients that I feel are a must in every cookie. I don’t mean to brag, but I am known for making delicious cookies of every kind. My grandfather was a professional baker and he gave me all the tips I needed for a flawless cookie. I even beat him in a cookie baking contest once when I was 12… (My grandmother was the judge so it might have been a little skewed) Anyhow, since then I have received many compliments on this cookie recipe.

Bread flour is unbleached flour made from a special blend of wheat higher in protein than the wheat used in all-purpose flour. Protein produces gluten, which gives the desired loftiness or chewiness required in products like bread and cookies. I use bread flour in most of my cookie recipes. It’s my “secret” ingredient! Bread flour makes a perfectly chewy cookie. (The only times I don’t use bread flour is when the cookie is more like a cake ex. pumpkin cookies) THIS is my favorite brand of bread flour.

I love the rough edges on these cookies. They give the cookie a homemade, simple look. I make these cookies year-round and decorate them for any occasion I might need. If I don’t have an occasion, I will either leave them white or add food coloring to the icing. You can also roll this dough out for shapes. Read the instructions as the cooking times are different for shapes vs. round cookies.
