This year I wanted to go a little out of my comfort zone so I decided to help a friend with a girl bedroom makeover for her daughters! Lucky enough for me, my friend, Jordan, is a thrifting magician and so styling the bedroom was so fun and easy because we could shop her home filled with amazing thrifted finds.

Before Picture and Design Board
The before picture of the girls’ room is very cute! Jordan already had a lot of amazing pieces in this room. Our main goal was to pull them all together for one collected look. Having a lot of color in the room was important to Jordan, so we made a design board.
Working with a lot of color in a small space can make a room feel overly busy or suffocating. That’s why I made a design board to help us decide on the rug and wallpaper. (If you haven’t read “Making Design Boards” yet on my blog, please do!)
Wallpaper and Rug
How can you not love this colorful, floral rug by Bari J. Ackerman? Here is a similar one, since that one is sold out. The colors are so bright and deep. It was the perfect feminine addition to the bedroom makeover for a 5-year-old and 3-year-old girls.
With such a bright rug we opted for a soft, blue, floral wallpaper. You can see from the design board that we chose the wallpaper from the colors in the rug for one cohesive look.
Girl Makeover Bedroom Details
As I mentioned, most of the items in this girl bedroom makeover are thrifted. I did however find a few links for some similar items like this gorgeous ABC bedroom dresser and floral bedding.
This adorable “Just Roll with It” print was design by her sister! She has an Etsy Shop you can look through!
Mostly everything in the bedroom was thrifted and Jordan shared her secrets with us! Jordan, who is an expert in thrifting second-hand items shared her secret tips on finding success at any thrift store! You can follow her on Posh Mark Closet and Mercari.
Top five thrifty tips:
1. Make thrifts trips often. The more you go the more likely you’ll stumble upon a treasure! Thrift stores put out new inventory OFTEN and going more often allows you to see the always-changing inventory.
2. Check thrift store media accounts for extra savings! Some thrift stores only offer discounts through posted sale photos or announce big sales via social media.
3. Walk the entire store. Some things will get randomly placed in contrasting category areas. I can’t tell you how often I find women’s shoes in the men’s section or when big items get placed wherever they’ll fit!
4. Respect thrift store employees! By being friendly you can start to make friends with employees and that sometimes some will give you a heads up when new inventory is going to hit the floor.
5. Wear comfortable clothing. You’ll want comfy pants that allow you to look at lower shelves and bins! Leggings and comfortable shoes are the best!
