Today I am excited to share with you our project, tongue and groove, for week 3 on the One Room Challenge Spring 2020. The One Room challenge™ provides participants with a supportive, enthusiastic forum in which to share the process of transforming a room. The ORC is not a competition, but rather a celebration of creativity, inspiration, and original ideas. I will be sharing our bathroom remodel for this challenge. You can find all the rooms and designers participating in the ORC HERE. You can also follow along on Instagram HERE. That’s where I will be sharing live videos and pictures.
Before
Here is a little reminder of what the bathroom looked like before we started any updates.
Tongue and Groove
Adding a vertical tongue and groove was an easy call to make. In this tiny bathroom it helped elongate the walls and made all the difference. We used THIS decorative tongue and groove. To attach we used THIS nail gun and covered the nail holes with THIS plastic wood.
First we had to take out the old medicine cabinet. We placed some studs in the hole before covering with the tongue and groove.
Moulding
We trimmed the tongue and groove with moulding on the top and bottom. For the ceiling moulding we used THIS and for the wall moulding we used THIS.
Caulk
Oh…. caulk. We had a little mishap with the caulk. After attaching the moulding, we caulked the edges for a clean look. Make sure you use paintable caulk for any area you plan on painting. We used THIS one.
Paint
Bright and airy was the look I wanted in this small bathroom. So chose THIS paint for the tongue and groove and THIS paint for the bottom half. You can see we didn’t quite finish painting the bottom half. We will finish when do the floors.
Window
We trimmed and painted this window. Started by scraping all the old paint off. We used THIS miter saw to cut the 45-degree angles. We attached two sides with nails and the other two sides with glue. The bottom half of this bathroom is metal so we weren’t able to nail it like we normally would. THIS wood glue and tape worked great. We then used THIS spray paint for the metal frame and THIS paint for the trim.
Window Blinds
We have THESE bamboo blind throughout our home and love them. They are so warm and cozy.
Extras
This art was a gift from my mother-in-law. She watercolored it herself! Can you believe it? I can, she does a lot of amazing things. You can find the speckled vase HERE from Afloral.
