This two-day makeover turned out really cute and was so fun to do with my friend Nicole. Nicole is also an Instagram DIYer and invited me to help her design a physical therapy room specifically for pelvic health. We really wanted to dress up the room and keep it looking professional but also comfortable for the women who are going to be using it. When Nicole told me about the overall atmosphere she was trying to achieve painting a blue room with wallpaper was the way to go!
What wallpaper goes with blue paint?
The blue paint we used is from the designer collection at Home Depot. The color is named Adirondack Blue. It’s absolutely gorgeous and gives feelings of calmness, which is perfect for the space. The combination of the blue room with wallpaper really gives a fun and relaxing energy.
I told Nicole I would love to find a wallpaper that represented the purpose of the room. I found this beautiful abstract wallpaper from Anthropologie, and it does just that! I love how wallpaper can help make sense to a room by the design.
How to match wallpaper to paint?
When matching the blue paint to the wallpaper, I found a couple of blues in the wallpaper and pulled the color from it.. I think this is the easiest way to pick out paint when trying to match wallpaper. I try to avoid doing exact matches, but rather the same color either lighter or darker. This is going to give your room more dimension and keep it interesting!
Contact paper counter
We decided last minute to use contact paper on top of the old medical green countertop. Using contact paper is an easy way to elevate the space at a fraction of the cost. Just remember that it’s a two-person job and you’ll definitely want to use caulk in the seams.
Natural shelf
We hung up a natural shelf above the countertop, and I love the warmth that the wood brings into the room. I also think it gives the space a really cozy feel without being too casual. The arched mirror fit perfectly and I love the touch of black.
Rug
If you know me, you know, I love patterns on patterns on patterns! The checkered rug is so beautiful in person! I am thankful Nicole let me just go for it because at first glance the design seemed like a lot, but once the room was put together, the colors ended up working perfectly!
We grabbed a couple of pieces of furniture like black chairs and a floor lamp with a few shelves. That way patients have a place to put on their shoes and sit and feel comfortable before being seen.
This was such a fun project. I loved painting the room blue and using fun wallpaper for a super easy and beautiful upgrade! I can’t wait to get together with Nicole again she was a blast to work with.
