DIY Rattan Basket Pendant Light + Black Banquette

This project was a lot of fun and really easy! I’ve been searching for a rattan pendant light for some time, however, I wasn’t able to find one the right size without tearing a small hole in my wallet. That’s when I decided I could easily make my own DIY Rattan Basket Pendant.

When I was shopping at Joann’s Fabric Store I came across a similar basket to THIS. I took one look at it and knew I could make it work! I love the boho + chic look from the natural wood and curved lines.

The basket had steel rods that I needed to cut, so I used wire cutters. Carter helped me bend the steel rods back a little bit so I could fit THIS light kit through the hole. I loved that this light kit came with a dimmer. We don’t have overhead lighting above our breakfast nook so we opted for a light kit. If you do have overhead lighting installed, you can buy a hardwire installation kit HERE.

We used a hook to hang it above the table and strung the rest of the cord to the corner and then down the wall towards the outlet. This option is especially great for renters! We will eventually have an electrician come out and hardwire a spot for a pendant but until then this works absolutely perfect!

Black Banquette

The next thing I decided to do was paint the kitchen banquette black. I took a poll on my Instagram and black was not a popular choice, but I am really happy I went against the vote! I used the color Tricorn Black from Sherwin Williams ina satin finish. The black banquette doesn’t make the kitchen look any darker or smaller. It actually brings out the marble in the kitchen table and has the perfect amount of contrast against the natural wood accents I have around our kitchen.

Don’t ever be afraid to paint. I was nervous about using a dark color on our banquette but I knew I could always change it back if I really didn’t like it. If you’re really itching to do something, just go for it, you can always change your mind later!
