Trimming Windows + Window Treatments Master Bedroom

Every window in this bungalow needed a little attention. (Some still do). So when it was time to refresh our master bedroom, windows were a must on my list. It was time to trim these old windows and add some pizzazz to the room. Trimming the windows and adding window treatments in the master bedroom has made such a difference in the small space.

Trimming the windows

Before trimming the windows, Carter and I had to get the old window sill out. With a hammer and some muscle, we were able to get the old sill out. Taking the old sill out was like being able to start with a blank canvas.

We were able to take our own measurements for the new sill and then add the trim. After adding the trim, we filled the nail holes and caulked the edges on the inside of the window.

We painted the trim the same color as the baseboards. I wrote an entire post on it HERE and you can shop the paint color HERE.

Painting Window

The next part of this window makeover was to paint the actual window. We wanted it to have a contrast to it so we decided to go with black. We used a similar flat matte paint color to THIS.

I love how the black adds a more modern touch. So far the paint has held up well and we are happy with it.

Window Treatments

There are two windows in our master bedroom. The big window and then a smaller one next to our bed. Both windows had the cheap mini blinds on them. We have been anxiously waiting to get rid of these blinds.

Small Window

For the smaller window, we added a cordless blind that you can find HERE. The cordless blind offers filtering light. I don’t recommend using only this blind if using it for a window where you expect to have some privacy. The window leads to our fenced-in backyard so it worked here. You can add extra fabric or shade for some additional privacy with these cordless blinds. They are easy to install and I love the texture they add to the room.

Big Window

Since the big window is the first thing you see when you walk into the room, I wanted to do everything I could to make it look grand in this tiny home. The first thing we did was place the curtains as high as possible. Remember, placing your curtains higher will give the effect of taller ceilings making the room feel spacious. We used THIS curtain rod from West Elm. I love the combination of wood and brass details together, as it adds layers to the look. We decided to go with THESE extra-wide amber-gold curtains. They are everything GRAND, velvet, extra-wide, top quality. They are extra wide so there is plenty of pleated fabric when the curtains are open or closed. (Some people think that “extra” is a bad thing, but not when it comes to these curtains!) The velvet fabric is luxe, but I love how the deep color keeps it cozy. Spending a little extra money on the curtains made all the difference in making this window the show stopper in the room (again, the good kind of “extra”).
