Greek Tzatziki Sauce Recipe

My husband and I absolutely LOVE this Greek Tzatziki Sauce! We have found ourselves putting it on everything—meats, breads, veggies, or as an appetizer for larger gatherings. We love Mediterranean food so we always make meat pies to go with it, truly the best combo!

Why We Love Tzatziki

Tzatziki is a refreshing and creamy sauce that’s a staple in Greek food. It has a tangy flavor making it the best topping on almost anything. Tzatziki is definitely one of our go-to sauces, especially since it is good for you!

Ingredients:

  • 1 unpeeled cucumber
  • 1 1/2 cups of plain full-fat Greek yogurt (trust me, the full-fat version adds to the creaminess!)
  • 3 large garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon of white vinegar
  • 1/2 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of minced fresh dill

How to Make Tzatziki Sauce

Grate the Cucumber: Start by grating the cucumber into a bowl, skin and all! The skin gives it a nice texture and a bit of color.

Strain the Cucumber: This step is important to avoid a watery tzatziki. Strain the grated cucumber using a cheesecloth or a fine strainer. If I’m prepping ahead of time, I like to let it strain in the fridge overnight. If I’m in a bit of a hurry, I press down to squeeze out as much juice as possible.

Mix the Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, and salt. Stir until everything is well combined.

GARLIC PRESS

Combine and Chill: Add your strained cucumber to the yogurt mixture and mix well. Then, stir in the fresh dill. Pop it in the fridge to chill.

Enjoy: Serve your homemade tzatziki with grilled meats, over savory pies, alongside fresh veggies, or as a refreshing appetizer.

Serving Suggestions

Bring out the dip at your next party and make sure it is cold! As far as when to serve it, whenever and however. For me, Greek food reminds me of summer, so naturally, I make it for barbecues and outdoor parties.

It’s easy to make, refreshing, and delicious on everything. Give it a try for your next gathering, or whip it up for a delicious snack!
