Bunk Room with Office

Refreshing this room is a little bittersweet because it’s the last room in our tiny bungalow that we have yet to touch! We got the best bang for our buck in this tiny 10 x 10 room with built-in bunkbeds, storage, and a little office area! Welcome to our second bedroom… aka the Bunk Room!

Before building DIY bunk beds, this bunk room really was a catchall room for our small home. I am so excited that we finally figured out exactly how to lay out this room to best serve our needs.

Twin Bunk Room with Office

Since we only have two rooms in our home, we were intentional with how we designed every square foot of this space. This room needed to have storage, sleeping arrangements for guests, and a desk for me to work at during the day. I can’t believe we fit everything we needed in 100 ft.².

Carter built these built-in bunk beds! They turned out so cute and are absolutely perfect for guests and storage. We used this tutorial as a guide but since our space was a little different, we did have some customization.

We put the bottom bunk a tiny bit higher so we could use the space underneath as storage. The top bunk has enough space to sit up so it’s comfortable enough for our semi-frequent guests when they stay.

Twin Bunk Room Bedding

The bedding is so beautiful on this bunk bed. We added a fitted sheet but decided to ditch the flat sheet and use a duvet with a cover.

One thing we learned about bunk beds is that making up the beds can be challenging! Having a duvet cover that we can take off and wash is the perfect solution to ditching the flat sheet, which is so hard to fold around the mattress.

I love that the duvet cover has palm fronds. It fits perfectly with our Florida bungalow and brightens up the space! I wanted to keep a lot of the elements light and bright since the room is so small, and the pattern on the duvet really brought some life to this room!

How do You Arrange a Room with a Bunk Bed?

We thought about the arrangement of this room for years! We tried so many different setups and landed on this perfect layout.

As you walk into the room, the built-in bunkbeds are directly to your right, creating a tiny hallway through the door. We then added a storage cabinet and full-length mirror on one wall, and a desk plus chair on the other.

Office Storage

As far as office supplies, the desk has two drawers, one of which is a filing cabinet. The other is a regular cabinet for storage.

I decided to add a linen corkboard on the wall above the desk which will be perfect for hanging cute decor, important mail, and other things I don’t want to forget about. The disco Garland is just a fun touch!

Wallpaper Ceiling

Adding a neutral pattern wallpaper to the ceiling was the right call! I love how cozy this pattern is and the detail it adds to the bunk room. Wallpapering a ceiling isn’t easy but it definitely makes a statement!

I decided to wallpaper the top of the bottom bunk, which I thought was a cute way to incorporate the wallpaper ceiling look!

Bunk Room with Office for Adults

Accommodating guests in our home is such a priority for me since we often have visitors. Since we live in Florida near Disney and the beaches, we find ourselves connecting with friends and family in our home often!

Bunkbeds are not just for kids! When you live in a small home, they are a perfect solution for creating memories and having the opportunity to have the people you love the most stay with you.

Bunk Bed Storage Ideas

As far as storage, we have lots of options in this room! Not only do we have a built-in closet that stores lots of our seasonal items, but I also added a big storage locker that will hold all of my work equipment!

I already put a bunch of items in there and it’s only half full. For any of you small homeowners out there, you will understand how exciting this is!

I added two baskets under the desk drawers which will hold extra blankets and items for guests when they stay.

We do plan to store a few things under the bunkbeds but will also try to keep some space open for guests to store their suitcases during their stay. Lastly, we kept our mounted shoe cabinet. This is such a great piece because it’s slim to the wall, but offers easy additional storage! Can’t believe how far this room has come!

Overall, this room has my heart, and Carter and I already decided we’ll have a few slumber party nights ourselves in the bunkroom!
