Christmas truly is the best time of the year. It is the perfect excuse to spend extra time with family in your home. With so many fun activities and traditions, making long-lasting memories is easy and simply put, indispensable. Last year my mom happened to be visiting during the month of November, so we decided to get the tree up while she was here. My mom is a master tree decorator. She is a sculptor, painter, and all-around artist by nature, so of course, her Christmas trees are a piece of work. I was happy to have her help and guidance while decorating Last Year’s Christmas Tree.

Tree in a Basket
I knew I wanted my Christmas Tree to be in a basket. I’ve seen several bloggers put their trees in some sort of basket, stuffed with blankets. A major problem I saw was my skinny, but very tall tree needed something a little sturdier. I bought this pre-lit tree at Michael’s you can find it HERE. It is currently a great price at $39.99 and I think paid more than that last year.
I came up with the idea to place a few bricks at the bottom of the basket and use thick styrofoam to hold the tree in place. This worked so well, I don’t think I will do it any other way! My top-heavy tree wasn’t going anywhere, so I was able to pack the tree full of Christmas goodies. I found most of my goodies on this tree at Joann’s. You can shop for their Christmas items HERE.
I loved having the tree up last year. Carter and I didn’t spend actual Christmas at our home, but having the tree up really put us in the Christmas spirit.
When I Set Up Christmas
I haven’t really decided on when the time is “right” to put up Christmas. I think what’s more important, is to do what brings you the most joy and love in your home. If that means setting up Christmas the day after Halloween, I say, “Go for it!” If you would rather wait until after Thanksgiving, I can respect that. For me, I focus more on how I am feeling than “the” standard rule of thumb. I think I will have Christmas up in a couple of weeks, so Carter and I can enjoy it. Maybe by having our tree up, we can trick Florida into some cooler weather.
Spotify Christmas Playlist
Last year I made a Spotify Christmas playlist. This playlist is a compilation of all time my favorites, from Frank Sinatra to Ariana Grande. You can listen to it HERE.
Christmas Traditions
Growing up my mom was lenient about many things. One thing she wasn’t lenient about was sugar cereals. If she brought home Honey Nut Cheerios, it was going to be a good week. That’s why one of my favorite family traditions was, Santa always placed a Family Size box of our favorite cereal next to our stockings. Nothing was better than playing with our new toys while munching on a bowl of Cocoa Puffs. I hope to carry this same tradition in my own family. In fact, Carter can expect a box of Lucky Charms next to his stocking this year.
