Master Bedroom Rug Reveal, Nightstand Makeover and Affordable Rugs

We are four weeks into our master bedroom makeover which calls for a new rug and a little nightstand makeover. Rugs are my favorite part of a room. Hands down. There are so many beautiful and different color palettes out there, a rug can totally transform the look of any room. Today we wanted to talk all things rugs, size, color, rug reveal and a round up of my favorite affordable rugs.

When searching for the perfect rug, I try to envision the desired overall feel for the space and go from there. Personally, I prefer muted colored rugs. This will allow you to add pops of color in other decor items that will be easier to change up in the future.

Rug Size in Bedroom

Let talk about rug size and tips.
-Depending on room size, the rug should extend about 2′ to 3′ from the bed.
-Leave 2-3 feet of flooring around the rug.
-Recommended Size- Twin 5×8, Queen 6×9 or 8×10, King 8×10 or 9×12
-Don’t place the rug under the nightstands.
-If you have an odd-shaped room, I recommend sizing up rather than down.

Rug Reveal

Remember how I was just talking about weird sized rooms? Well, our master bedroom falls under that category. The layout of our bedroom doesn’t allow for many options so we are going with what works best, even if it does break a few rug rules. We decided to go with THIS rug. We are happy with the texture and we recommend using a rug pad. We purchased this one HERE.

This rug is 9 X 12. The rug a size down from this one only extended about a foot past our bed. So we opted to cover more of the flooring than we would prefer and we are happy we did. Getting the 9 X6 would have made this room feel smaller and as you know, we can’t have that in our already tiny bungalow.

Nightstand Makeover

This project came unexpected but was a pleasant surprise. We had plans to purchase new nightstands, but most of our first choice options were unavailable so we decided to work with what we had. (This also allowed freed up some budget for us to add another element to the room that we are excited to share with you next week.)

These side tables we purchased from Homegoods. We did, however, find a very budget-friendly look-alike HERE. We bought these when we first moved into our home so we had something to use in the meantime. I love the height and the color of the work but the gold accent wasn’t going to work with the refresh so spray paint it was! We taped off the wood and used THIS spray paint. It added the perfect amount of contrast and will work perfectly for now.
