Vintage Airstream Renovation Backyard

Yes, I am finally crossing this off my bucket list! I’ve been wanting to renovate a vintage Airstream for so long! When we saw this Airstream come up on the Facebook marketplace, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for! It looks just like my custom piece of art! Airstreams are very popular and we knew this one would sell fast, so we bought it the day we saw it! We can say this was kind of spontaneous but we always knew we would eventually find one so we pulled the trigger! (Before we were actually ready to take on the project!) Make sure you’re following long on Instagram to see the whole thing unfold!

Vintage Airstream

This vintage Airstream is a 26-foot 1967 Outlander. It’s in really good shape, but we plan to rip everything down to its bare bones and build it back up. I can already see Carter, Bruce, and me traveling back to Idaho in our shiny silver bullet!

It’s going to take a lot of work! We’re estimating that this project will be finished closer to the end of this year. We have not decided yet how much we will do ourselves versus hiring some help with the initial inspection and electric work. All of these things we aren’t quite sure about it yet. Lots of decisions to be made, which if you know me… can take some time!!

Backyard Plans

There’s also quite a bit of work we need to do before starting on the Airstream project. We have all of these ideas to incorporate the airstream into our backyard as a part of the space. The direction we want to go is a fun, quirky (but intentional) Florida backyard. So what do you think about this…

Deck with Pergola and Outdoor Kitchen

We’d love to build a deck that connects our house to the Airstream. Our idea is to park the airstream on the side of the house and build a deck up to it. Picture walking out of the airstream onto the a deck! That way when we’re not using our airstream for recreational use, we have an extra little sleeping space for guests! Carter drew up some quick plans on some graph paper.

We’d love the deck to have a pergola and an outdoor kitchen area. With living in such a small space it’s time we utilize our bigger backyard. We want this backyard to be a fun place to host friends and family and make better use of the property.

Before we build the deck, there are a few things that need to be done in our backyard. We have a giant pine tree that will need to be removed. Although we love the shade the pine tree provides, it drops an insane amount of sap year-round making it almost impossible to enjoy our backyard. Hopefully will be getting the tree out in the next couple of weeks.

Chicken Coop and Garden

We also are going to move the chicken coop to the other side of the yard. We have a perfect place to build a run for the chickens on the other side of the yard which will keep them enclosed and happy! We also have plans to build a garden as well!

We are so excited about this new adventure! There is so much to do and so much to learn, but we know by the time we’re finished we’ll have a completely new and unique space that will make our tiny home even better!
