This woven cane storage bookcase Ikea hack has been one of the easiest DIYs to date. Cane has become more popular over the last few years and there is a good reason why. The natural fibers of cane bring so much warmth to a room. That’s why when I came across this easy “no-tools” hack I knew I had to try it.

Inspiration
I had seen cane cabinet makeovers all over the internet. Most of them included making brand new doors and using tools that I didn’t have on hand. I had searched for a reasonably priced cane cabinet already made but found most of them to be on the pricey side. This ONE from Urban Outfitters is gorgeous but runs around $800 dollars. So between the makeovers that required lots of tools and the budget I decided to put this cane idea on the back burner. That is until I found Lone Fox’s Cane Hack tutorial.

Tutorial
This hack was so easy and I followed THIS tutorial. The only thing I did differently was that I stained the cane webbing prior to cutting it. The stain helped bring out a warmer color in the cane webbing and looks great against the black bookcase. I use THIS stain. To stain the webbing, you lay it flat and evenly apply the stain. Use a dry cloth to wipe off any excess stain. Allow a few hours to dry. I also decided to paint the trim black to match the same color as the bookcase.

All said and done, this project cost about $285. Compared to anything on the market, that’s a steal! You could do this hack really on any glass bookcase. If you really want to cut the cost, you can thrift one. The glass is not noticeable behind the cane and it’s perfect for keeping dust out of the bookcase. This woven cane storage bookcase Ikea hack is definitely one you’ll need to add to your list!
