Coastal Enclosed Porch with Windows

There are so many things about our enclosed porch that I absolutely love! From the old jalousie windows to the beadboard walls, this small porch entry is my new favorite room in the house. I’ve always dreamed of having an entry space that tells a story about the rest of the home and I can confidently say that this room says it all.

Enclosed Front Porch Entry

This is a unique room in most of the country, however, in the state of Florida having an enclosed porch with windows is more commonly known as a Florida room. In most cases, Florida rooms are added on as an addition to the home and are treated more like a screened-in front porch. This is a place where Floridians will enjoy their coffee and where I like to check all my emails first thing in the morning. Our space is not air-conditioned, but between a nice breeze and a ceiling fan, this room can be enjoyed the majority of the time!

Small Enclosed Porch Ideas

I had so many ideas for this room when we first moved in. About eight months ago we refaced the entire room with a new wall feature with beadboard, skinny lap on the ceiling, and faux marble tile. At the time it wasn’t in our budget to decorate and fill the room with furniture, so we used what we had and it worked perfectly in the meantime.

Now that we’re ready, I planned and mapped out the perfect oasis for our sweet Florida porch! I started by creating a mood board with all my favorite things to make sure the room felt cohesive.

Hanging Porch Swing

It’s no secret that my favorite part of this room is the beautiful rattan hanging chair. I love to be able to come out in the morning and swing on the chair while taking care of my morning emails. I really wanted this room to feel coastal without being too beachy. The bamboo wood from the rattan chair really gives this room the exact look I was going for!

DIY Support Beam for Swing

Getting the chair up wasn’t easy! It’s common for Florida rooms to be an afterthought, so a lot of times the roofs in these rooms are flat. In some cases, there will be no joists across a flat roof. That meant we had to build an additional support beam across the ceiling to hang the chair. Lucky enough, there were studs we could connect brackets to on the side of the wall to secure the beam and hang the porch swing. It really makes it dreamy in here! I love that you can see the swing from our french doors inside our house!

Enclosed Porch Decorating Ideas

As I said earlier, we live in a beach town so I really wanted to bring that coastal vibe. I try to avoid “beach” themed decor because I don’t want our home to feel like a beach rental. But I genuinely believe in decorating your home based on it’s location and style of the structure of the home. Our home is a sweet tiny bungalow so a fun coastal vibe it is!

I did a gallery wall filled with bright colored pieces that worked cohesively together to bring this coastal vibe. I thrifted a barrister bookcase and painted it avocado green, which adds a vintage element to the room. I picked up this mirror from HomeGoods and painted it matte black for contrast. Here is a similar wood black mirror I love.  You know I always like a dash of black to ground the space.

The sideboard is a beautiful natural color and it really pulls the rest of the room together.

Large Porch Rugs

Finding the right rugs was important because this room is a high-traffic area. I decided to lay down a jute rug and then place a washable rug on top of it. Both these are from Boutique Rugs. Boutique Rugs has amazing sales and their rugs are top quality! A washable rug was the perfect choice for an enclosed porch with the expected foot traffic.

Enclosed Porch Curtains

I love the linen curtains for our porch. They are blackout curtains which is perfect to help keep the room cool during the middle of the day! I think these curtains bring the perfect amount of warmth to the room and the pattern is simple but fun! For extra seating, we hung up a floor cushion. Floor cushions are an easy way to give extra seating in any room. Plop it right on the floor and now you have a cozy spot to sit! I also think it looks adorable on the wall as extra decor.
